In the sections to follow you’ll discover all the pros and cons that come with a visit to the Gold Country Inn. Gold Country Inn: What to Expect

Our Gold Country Inn review will offer a proper rundown of the Deadwood gaming venue. At first glance, it’s fair to say that it doesn’t have the same range of facilities as other locations in the area. However, it does serve as a great base for visitors wanting to sample the area’s unique history and explore the nearby attractions. To skip ahead to our attractions chapter — or any other you fancy — use the content navigation tool above.

Gold Country Inn Casino Games

The Gold Country Inn games selection is not as extensive as one would hope. There are only a handful of slot machines in a fairly small area of the venue, so visitors looking for an all-purpose gaming complex in swanky, spacious surroundings may be a little disappointed. However, despite the narrow scope of games on offer, the slots they do carry can provide lengthy entertainment for players who love to spin the reels.

Among the selection of slots available are traditional, three-reel Vegas-style slots and video slots. Coin denominations vary from a penny to a dollar, so players of all budgets are able to have a spin. One of the most popular editions, the Game King from IGT, contains over 20 different games, many of which are electronic simulations of live table games. See the full list of Gold Country Inn games in the list element below.

  • Video Slots
  • Video Blackjack
  • Video Poker
  • Video Keno

The list element above provides a thorough breakdown of the Gold Country Inn games collection. As you can see, it’s very much geared towards slots fans. Its license means live table games and bingo are completely absent, so card sharks and gamblers who play the numbers game are at a disadvantage. However, with so much choice in Deadwood, you can easily find an all-purpose gaming venue — Tin Lizzie, for instance, has a complete casino games offering.

No Online Games at Present

Online gaming is currently prohibited in the state of South Dakota (S.D), so you won’t find any services of this kind at the Gold Country Inn or anywhere else in Deadwood. If you happen to come across venues advertising online betting services where real money transactions are taking place, there’s a fair chance it’s a scam. However, recent reports suggest there may be changes to the law arriving sooner than you think, so your best bet is to check back here for updates — if there is a breakthrough, we’ll be the first to know!

No Gold Country Inn Promotions

Gold VIP coins.

Unfortunately, promotions are not something you’ll find at the Gold Country Inn. While we would love to see a few slot tournaments, prize giveaways, or cash hot seat draws in rotation, attractions of this kind are missing at the moment. The venue may introduce a few promotions in the future; for now, however, you’re best advised to look elsewhere.

Due to the venue being located just two blocks from the main downtown area in Deadwood, you’re never too far away from a top gaming destination. This is great if you’re on the hunt for casino promotions. One venue we’d recommend is Cadillac Jack’s. There are a host of cool promos to explore here; and you don’t have to be a member of the loyalty scheme in order to take advantage.

Missing Loyalty Benefits

VIP written in gold letters.

In a similar vein to Gold Country Inn promotions, there are no benefits for loyal playerswho regularly visit the casino. This is at least in part due to the thin range of games available here, so it’s understandable there aren’t any special casino benefits. However, a few drinks deals or meal coupons certainly wouldn’t go amiss, so we were a little disappointed to not find even a couple of perks here. If this is something you’re after, we’d recommend The Lodge at Deadwood. Here, you’ll find great deals for the games room, hotel and restaurant.

No Sports Betting

Similar to online betting, strict laws currently in place in S.D prevent gambling venues from providing sports betting services. However, we’ve been keeping our ears close to the ground, and according to our sources, there’s a more than fair chance we’ll see sports betting introduced in the future. If this does occur, we’ll be the first to know, so make sure you check back regularly for updates. You may even become one of the first gamblers in the state to take advantage of the new laws!

Non-Gambling Related Attractions

Given Deadwood’s reputation as a gambler’s haven in the state of S.D, we’re sure many of our readers are concerned, first and foremost, with what the Gold Country Inn has to offer in the gaming department. However, you would be selling yourself short if you didn’t explore the non-gambling related attractions in the area. While events and attractions at the venue itself are limited, there’s lots to see nearby.

Affordable Hotel Accommodation

For all the readers out there planning an overnight stay in Deadwood, the accommodation here at the Gold Country Inn is a solid option. There are a range of rooms for travelers of all budgets and, in addition, it’s located at the upper end of Main Street. This means it’s far enough away from the main Downton area, so you can enjoy the surrounding mountain pine and some peace and quiet, but still close enough that you can walk to the center of the action.

No matter how you’re travelling to Deadwood, the Country Inn is easy to reach. The nearest airport is Rapid City — about 50 miles away — and the Interstate 90, which is the largest interstate highway in the nation, is the closest main connection by road. The only real downside is the lack of leisure facilities. With no pool, sauna, or fitness facilities to speak of, it’s a pretty simple room and board style arrangement.

Lots of Events in Deadwood

Unfortunately, there aren’t any on-site Gold Country Inn events. This means that when you’re looking for a break from the games room, you’ll need to take a walk into town. However, as we mentioned earlier, the Gold Country is very well located, so it’s just a short walk and you’re right in the thick of it.

Deadwood offers a lots of unique attractions. There are plenty of historic museums, an old gold mine, fantastic nature walks through the woods, and even ski slopes nearby! Enquire directly at the venue on your next visit and the staff will be happy to fill you in on all that’s going on!

Many visitors opt to use the Gold Country Inn as a base to explore the rest of the town. The opening hours allow you to get warmed up on the slot machines in the games room and have a meal at the on-site cafe. Once the venue closes at 11pm, eager gamers can take the short walk into town and have a go at some of the 24hr casinos.

A Modest Gaming Destination

The Gold Country Inn logo.

Although the Gold Country Inn does have a few positive talking points, it is mostly a very limited gaming destination. The hotel accommodation is well placed and affordable and the slots that are available are varied and cater for players of all budgets. However, with no promotions or loyalty bonuses to speak of, no on-site attractions and no live tables games, eager gamblers will probably want to consider alternative venues.
