Part of the international hotel chain Super 8, the Lucky 8 Casino is a popular destination for visitors wanting to explore Deadwood and the surrounding area. The casino facilities aren’t the best when compared to some of the other gambling destinations in Deadwood, but with stunning views of Whitewood Creek, affordable accommodation and great leisure amenities on-site, it’s well worth a visit. Lucky 8 Casino: What to Expect

As we’ve already mentioned, the Lucky 8 Casino is part of the international hotel chain, Super 8 By Wyndham. Straight away, then, you know you’re in good hands. With over 2400 branches across three continents, it’s the world’s largest budget hotel chain. However, with its heated indoor pool, casino games room and on-site restaurant, the Deadwood branch is particularly unique. To learn more about the hotel, skip ahead to our accommodation section —or any other sections you’re interested in — using the content navigation tool above.

Lucky 8 Casino Games

The Lucky 8 Casino games collection isn’t among the best in the Deadwood area. However, considering that it is, first and foremost, renowned for its hotel, we’re prepared to lower the standards a little. In total, there are around 70 slot machines, which include traditional slots, progressive jackpot slots, and titles that simulate live table games. Coin denominations vary also, so players of all budgets are able to have a spin. Furthermore, as is the case with all licensed casinos in the state, all machines are tested for fairness by the South Dakota Commission on Gaming.

Due to the license in operation here, the Lucky 8 Casino games catalogue does not feature live table games such as roulette, blackjack, poker and craps. There are a few machines which simulate the live table experience, so you can try your hand at video poker and video blackjack. For the real thing though, you’ll have to head to Main Street in Deadwood, which is less than a mile away.

  • Video Slots
  • Video Poker
  • Progressive Jackpot Slots
  • Video Blackjack

As the list element above shows, the Lucky 8 Casino games collection is geared mainly towards slots fans. The overall volume isn’t the highest, but the selection is varied enough to offer lengthy entertainment while you stay. Plus, you have the option to simulate live table games. However, if you’re looking for the real thing, the Silverado Franklin Historic Hotel Gaming complex has a great selection.

No Online Games

Strict laws and regulations around online betting have made this is a tricky subject over the years. Even though neighboring states allow certain forms of online betting, South Dakota (S.D) currently enforces some of the most rigid rulings in the nation, so you won’t find it at Super 8 or anywhere else in Deadwood. However, news reports suggest that a law change may be on the horizon, which could result in online gambling becoming legal by the end of the year. If this does happen, we’ll be the first to know, so check back regularly for updates.

Hotel Promotions

Gold coins next to a stack of cash.

Because the games facilities here are quite limited, you won’t find any Lucky 8 Casino promotions. However, if you look at the right time, you will see occasional deals that offer money off room rates at the hotel. For example, discounts of up to 15% can be redeemed if you book early enough and stay at participating branches. Furthermore, you may even be entitled to a free one-night stay if you’ve spent multiple nights at other branches.

If you’re looking for promotions for the games room, your best bet is to venture onto Deadwood’s main strip. Here, you’ll find some of the best casinos in the entire state, so promotions are quite easy to come by. One venue we’d recommend is The Lodge at Deadwood. Not only does it boast award-winning accommodation, but you’ll find great promotions for the hotel, casino, restaurant, and more.

Hotel Loyalty Scheme

VIP written in golden letters.

While there are no loyalty benefits for the Lucky 8 Casino as such, you will find a few worthwhile perks for the hotel. Because the venue is owned by the Super 8 By Wyndham hotel chain, Wyndham Reward Card holders are entitled to some pretty generous discounts. Simply put, every time you stay at a Wyndham hotel you accumulate points. There are over 2400 locations around the world, so working up to rewards is pretty easy — certain branches even offer points multiplier deals. Once you’ve collected enough, discounts come thick and fast.

No Sports Betting

In years gone past, horse racing and greyhound racing was permitted in S.D, which naturally meant that betting on said events became a common pastime. However, both sports have been banned for quite some time and, unfortunately, sports betting followed suit. Although it will take time before it’s approved in both houses, it appears as though the state legislature is ready to approve an amendment which could see sports betting return by the end of the year. Keep checking back here for updates to see if Lucky 8 becomes one of the first to update its services.

In addition to the games room there’s an on-site pizzeria and an indoor pool and hot tub. Guests are also entitled to a complimentary eight-item breakfast.

On-Site Attractions

While there aren’t a great deal of on-site Lucky 8 Casino events, there are a few things to keep you occupied before you venture off and explore the surrounding area. You can enjoy a slice at the pizzeria (only open during the evening) or go for a dip in the heated pool or hot tub. There’s also a bar and lounge to relax in at the evening. Off-site, Deadwood is really a traveler’s paradise. Check out historic landmarks, art galleries, old gold mines, and saloon style-bars with period furnishings and original decor.

It’s the final part of our Lucky 8 Casino review: the time has come for the final round-up. Overall, we were quite pleased with the venue. While its casino games facilities are basic, there’s a pretty decent selection of slot machines and some cool amenities at the hotel. Plus, there are a few promotions and loyalty perks for Wyndham Loyalty Card holders. However, for a more complete gaming experience, you’re best advised to check out alternative destinations in Deadwood. Head to our homepage and see some of the top casinos in the state.
